Note: For the examples of spacecraft design posted on this blog, I mostly use 2ed. Mongoose Traveller rules, but some examples using 1ed. rules will persist until they can be upgraded.

Look at the side column for variant rules I use in my campaign.

Finally acquired the Mongoose Publishing title, "High Guard", new edition (2nd?)

On September 12, 2016, I acquired a PDF of Mongoose Publishing's "High Guard" for their 2nd edition product line.

I've had a chance to read through the design rules, and while there is much to be admired, it will take some getting used to; I also haven't the time to convert all my ship designs.

So I will gradually phase in the new rules in my campaign, and on the remote chance I have the time, I may try to do a proper review of the MG book. For now, everyone will have to see the new rules implemented in new ship designs.

Right away, here is an irritating point in the new rules:

The minimum 1 dton fuel size for power plants is unfair to the design of very small spacecraft.

If I design a minimum high performance spacecraft, the smallest is likely this:

Small Craft, 10dt.

10dt Hull, HP=4, 0.5Mcr.

Cockpit (DM-4) 1.5dt, 0.01Mcr.
     Space for electronics (1dt)
     [____________________]

Power Requirement for Ship systems: 2EP

Gravitic Maneuver Drive, 6G thrust, 6EP, 0.6dt, 1.2Mcr.

Fusion Power Plant (TL8), 10EP, 1.0dt, 0.5Mcr.

Fuel Bunker 1.0dt
Strict interpretation of new rules = 4 weeks duration.
Jim's house rules interpretation = 40 weeks duration.

Payload: 4.9dt.

Total Ship: AF0, HP4, DM-4, 6g thrust, 2EP avail., 10dt, 2.21Mcr.

Streamlining adds 0.05Mcr.
